Inon Zur – Revisiting a Conversation

Way back in 2017 I was at the Montreal International Games Show (MIGS) and I had the extreme privilege to sit and have a conversation with the great video games composer Inon Zur. It was supposed to be an interview but we ended up having a fantastic talk about games, his life and inspirations.

I listen to some of my interviews randomly as I really try to have a real talk and I do a lot of research on what they are up to at the time. In the case of Inon Zur I was gushing a little bit as his work is so incredible.

What I had forgotten though was when I asked him about some of his projects (ones he could talk about at least). He mentioned a mobile game on one from Nexen then mentioned a secret project from a long time partner (assuming Bethesda) that was something new, not a sequel.

Could he have been working on Starfield WAY back in 2017? I am assuming so as his other games from Bethesda since then were existing IPs. What makes this even more interesting is that Todd Howard said recently on the Kinda Funny show that they always start with Music, so it all lines up.

He said that they do the music as they do concept art. The music (and referenced Inon Zur) as something that inspires the mood and motivations for the game.

Anyway it was wild to hear that little nugget in this incredible conversation. I encourage you to listen to the whole thing, but that little tidbit was at around 23:00 – gives me shivers realizing that he was working on this 6 years ago, but it tracks!
